Vacuum Pressure Impregnated - Kiln Dried After Treatment (KDAT) Lumber, Plywood, Timber, Shake Shingles, Architectural Millwork, Specialty Treatments

All Flame Safe fire retardant plywood, lumber and flameproof wood products are fire rated for interior and exterior use
ASTM E84 CLASS A; UL723 TYPE 1; NFPA255; ASTM D2898 [30 minute test]; UBC 42-1

VACUUM PRESSURE IMPREGNATION SPECIFICATIONS

Plywood is loaded into a treatment cylinder. The door is sealed and a vacuum is applied. During this stage, most of the moisture and the air is removed from the wood cells. The vacuum in the cylinder causes the cylinder to fill with Flame Safe's proprietary Fire Retardant. Pressure is raised in the cylinder forcing the fire retardant solution into the wood. The pressure and times varies depending on the species of the wood, the commodity being treated, the cross sectional area, and the amount of the Fire Retardant solution to be impregnated into the wood. The pressure in the cylinder forces the remaining fire retardant solution to flow back into a holding tank. Another vacuum is applied, removing the excess fire retardant solution from the wood. The lumber, plywood or timber is loaded onto a tram that services a gas fired forced air kiln.

KILN DRYING AFTER TREATMENT-SPECIFICATIONS

Heated air is used to extract moisture from the wood. A gas fired forced air convection system removes most of the moisture from the wood after treatment. The moisture laden air is dehumidified. The drying rate is monitored to prevent cracking in the lumber. Plywood is kiln dried to a moisture content not to exceed 15%. . Pitch in the wood is crystallized permitting interior and exterior finishes to be easily applied. When kiln dried, Flame Safe fire retardant treated wood becomes lighter and stronger, maximizing it's structural uses.

*1 The allowable loads were determined using a dead load of 10 psf. - if the dead load exceeds 10 psf, then the live load shall be reduced accordingly
*2 Panels continuous over two or more spans with long dimension perpendicular to supports. Spans shall be limited to values shown because of possible effect of concentrated loads.
*3 Applies to panels 24" or wider
*4 Lumber blocking, panel edge clips (one midway between each support, except to equally spaced between supports when span is 48 inches), tongue & groove panel edges, or other approved type of edge support
*5 Includes Structural 1 panels in these grades
*6 Uniform load deflection limitation: 1/180 of span under live load plus dead load, 1/240 of span under live load only
*7 Maximum span 24 inches for ½" panels
*8 Maximum span 24 inches where 3/4" wood finish flooring is installed at right angles to joists
*9 Maximum span 24 inches where 1-1/2" of lightweight concrete or approved cellular concrete is placed over the subfloor
*10 Unsupported edges shall have tongue & groove joints or shall be supported whith blocking unless nominal 1/4" thick underlayment or 1-1/2" of lightweight concrete or approved cellular concrete is placed over the subfloor, or 3/4" wood finish flooring is used. Allowable uniform live load at maximum span, based on deflection of 1/360 of span, is 100 psf
*11 Unsupported edges shall have tongue & groove joints or shall be supported by blocking unless nominal 1/4" thick underlayment or 3'4" wood finish flooring is used. Allowable uniform live load at maximum span, based on deflection of 1/360 of span, is 100psf, except panels with a span rating of 48 o.c. are limited to 65 psf total uniform load at maximum span
